About
Welcome to Maguroya Kurogin Kuromon, a gem nestled in the vibrant Kuromon Market of Osaka, Japan. Known for its exceptional bluefin tuna, this tiny yet bustling stand expertly showcases the art of sushi and sashimi crafting. Located at 2 Chome-11-1 Nipponbashi, Chuo Ward, it is a must-visit destination for enthusiasts of premium seafood.
As you approach the stand, you’ll find a lively atmosphere filled with the chatter of fellow food lovers eagerly waiting to experience the culinary delight that is Big Toro Don (大トロ丼). The setup is straightforward — you select your desired cut of tuna from a selection that includes the rich fatty and medium fatty options. Each piece promises a melt-in-your-mouth experience that even those who typically prefer salmon rave about. Steve, a delighted customer, described the tuna as the “best I've ever tried in my life,” a testament to the quality you can expect here.
However, it’s important to manage your expectations regarding pricing and portions. With prices starting around 50,000 yen and going upwards of 130,000 yen, some diners have voiced mixed feelings about the cost versus experience. Glen Francis, for instance, found his pricey breakfast lacking the distinction of high-end sushi restaurants. Yet, many other reviews emphasize the unmatched freshness and the sublime taste of the tuna, urging food lovers to give it a chance.
The experience isn't just about the food; it’s also about the vibrant local culture. You’ll find yourself standing in line, mingling with tourists and locals alike, all drawn together by a shared love for exquisite seafood. The line often moves quickly, making the wait worth it as you finally savor that delectable piece of tuna, brilliantly prepared right before your eyes.
For those seeking a unique culinary adventure, Maguroya Kurogin Kuromon brings the best of Osaka's seafood scene, where you can create delightful dishes on the spot, from sushi to sashimi. Whether you're a seasoned sushi aficionado or a curious foodie, this bustling stand should definitely make your Osaka itinerary. Embrace the flavors, experience the ambiance, and indulge in one of Japan’s finest offerings.
“ Probably my most expensive breakfast at 130k yen Honestly was hoping that the best parts tasted like those served in top sushi restaurant But it does not. Something is amiss in the tuna and rice. I don’t mind paying but it didn’t stand out unfortunately It’s very crowded with expensive tuna parts. ”
“ One of the main reasons I came to Osaka and this market! It’s a very small stand with limited seating but came an hour just before they closed. You get to pick your cut of tuna, we chose the fatty and medium fatty tuna which totaled to maybe around 8k yen. I think people said it was a bit expensive but it was the best tuna I’ve ever tried in my life. I’m typically more of a salmon guy but I still dream about these pieces. Highly recommend!! ”
“ Excellent fresh tuna to be purchased and made into sushi, sashimi or roll at the spot. You choose the tuna packaged and they will do it there and you can sit down and enjoy. The line is rather long so be prepared to line up for 30 mins or more (depending on the time you go). The price is on the high side but it's worth a try as a tourist as it's a unique experience. ”
“ If you want high quality blue fin tuna, this place should be on your short list. Incredible ahi. I recommend getting the sushi/sashimi combo. A little pricey, but the quality is there so, in my opinion, it's worth it. ”

“ We had such a great time at Maguroya Kurogin in Kuromon! We tried the negima nabe, and it was absolutely delicious — the broth was rich and flavorful, perfectly warming for the cooler weather. The fresh ingredients really made a difference, especially the tender cuts of tuna that melted in your mouth. One of the highlights was getting to taste kama-toro, which was buttery, fatty, and just incredible. It felt like a real treat! The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home, and the cozy, casual vibe of the place was perfect after a day of exploring the market. If you’re around Kuromon and want something comforting and tasty, definitely check this spot out! ”
“ I don’t like sashimi much but my husband loves it so this place was a must during our trip to Japan. It was very busy but the service is great and quick, high quality and really fresh tuna. Even not liking much raw fish, I had to try it and I was surprised how fresh and good the tuna was. My husband loved it as well! ”
“ If you want the best tuna in the Kuromon market, this place is it. You can do in sashimi, sushi or rice bowl style. Pick the cut from the display, pay for it and wait for them to assign you seats. The tuna is absolutely stunning. The only downside is that their seating is merely a couple stools facing the restaurant with no proper tables. But I guess it adds to the overall authenticity of the stall. ”
